What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML format designed for sharing web content like news headlines, atricles, blog entries and other time-sensitive information. An RSS feed (or channel) consists of a list of items. Each items contains a title (headline), description (maybe a summary), and a hypertext link to a web page.
How do I use RSS?
To use RSS, you need a special RSS news reader or "aggregator" that allows you to collect and display RSS feeds. RSS news readers allow you to view the channels you select all together in the same place and, by automatically retrieving updates, stay current with new content soon after it is published.
There are many different news readers available, many for free. Some news readers are applications that you download and install. Some others (like My Yahoo!tm) are web-based services that you sign-up for. These news readers work inside most browsers.
After setting up your news reader, you will be ready to use the OTRFan Daily Features RSS feed. To subscribe, go to the Today's Features page. Right-click on the orange "XML button" and select "Copy Shortcut" or "Copy Link Location" to copy the location (URL) of the feed. Then follow the instructions for your particular news reader, and then paste this location wherever it asks for the location of the channel you wish to subscribe to.
If you wish to use the My Yahoo!tm news reader/portal/aggregator, there is an easy-to-use button just for that purpose. Just left-click on the "Add to My Yahoo!" button and follow the resulting instructions.
Which options do you suggest?
If you have a choice, choose to display up to 3 headlines and include the descriptions. This will allow you to see most OTRFan Daily Features, including series, episode title, and original air date.
What does the feed look like?
Every news reader presents a different format. As an example, here is a sample picture taken from a portion of a My Yahoo!tm page:
How often is the feed updated?
The Old Time Radio Fan daily features are switched every night at midnight, Eastern (USA) time. The feed is updated a few minutes after midnight.
